The increasing number of heat waves and wildfires is threatening efforts to improve air quality, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned this week. In its annual air quality report, the UN agency also warned that smoke from extreme forest fires has major health impacts.
Increased lung and heart disease comes from forest fire pollution and increased tropospheric ozone caused by heat waves.
