France's President Macron has called for EU disaster protection because of the devastating forest fires in his country. The system has become more and more efficient, but in the summer of 2026 it reaches its limits.

While forests from Spain to northern Germany are on fire, the new DHC‐515 Canadair extinguisher actually only exists on paper. The EU has ordered twelve machines, but the manufacturer cannot specify a delivery date or quantify future annual production.
