Foreign National Dies After Altercation on Golden Temple Express Train in Surat
Police said the unidentified man was in his 40s, and investigators are checking how he became unconscious after being deboarded from the train.
- On Wednesday, the Government Railway Police launched a custodial death investigation after an unidentified foreign national died during questioning at a Surat railway station post.
- The man engaged in a physical altercation with co-passengers aboard the Golden Temple Express after departing Vapi, Gujarat on Monday, allegedly spraying a fire extinguisher during the fight.
- When the train reached Surat, Railway Protection Force and GRP personnel intervened and took the man to the station post for questioning, where he suddenly became unconscious and died.
- Western Railway Superintendent of Police, Vadodara Division, Abhay Soni stated the man's identity remains unconfirmed, noting he may be of African descent. "We have also sent a team of railway police to Mumbai for further investigation," Soni added.
- The GRP is working to ascertain the circumstances of the death, as no identification documents were recovered from the man, who was travelling to Delhi on the Golden Temple Express after boarding at Mumbai's Borivali.
