- On February 12, 2023 an unidentified foreign hacker breached a server at the FBI's New York Field Office, compromising files related to Jeffrey Epstein, deceased financier.
- A server at the Child Exploitation Forensic Lab was left vulnerable by Special Agent Aaron Spivack, who discovered the intrusion after finding a warning text file on his computer.
- Investigators traced unusual activity that included combing through Epstein files, and bureau officials restricted the hacker's access, rectified the network, and defused the situation with a video chat showing credentials.
- The Justice Department's records show many documents have been heavily redacted and the Trump administration says it is withholding material that could compromise victims of Jeffrey Epstein-related crimes.
