Ford Names New Louisville-Built Electric Vehicle

On Thursday, Ford Motor unveiled the Fathom, its new electric midsize pickup truck, which will be built at the Louisville Ford Assembly Plant with a starting MSRP of $28,350.
Following a $2 billion investment in the Louisville plant last year, Ford is resetting its electric vehicle strategy after a $19.5 billion writedown led to canceling larger models including the Lightning.
The Fathom is the first vehicle produced on the new Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, featuring BlueCruise driver assistance, Apple Maps integration, and five seats; Pre-orders begin in early 2027.
Aiming to compete with Tesla and BYD, Ford positioned the Fathom as an affordable electric option as data shows 36 models currently carry starting prices below $30,000.
Ford Model e General Manager Kay Hart said the team focused on providing customer value, as Ford seeks to create a "vehicle that can sustain itself" amid slowing industry-wide EV growth.
