The US Could Really Use an Affordable Electric Truck

- Amid rising EV demand, Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Universal EV Platform and Production System alongside plans for prismatic LFP batteries.
- This week, Ford Motor Company says it is investing $5 billion to develop prismatic LFP batteries in the U.S. to compete with Chinese electric carmakers.
- Adopting ‘unicasting’, Ford will use large aluminum castings and an ‘assembly tree’ process for manufacturing, simplifying construction, Ford chief EV Doug Field explained.
- The investments will secure 2,200 jobs at Louisville Assembly Plant and nearly 4,000 American jobs overall, Ford says.
- The midsize electric pickup will debut in 2027, and Ford promises five-year ownership costs lower than a three-year-old Tesla Model Y electric SUV.
