16,200 Ford Bronco SUVs Recalled because Pieces of Their Roofs Might Fly Off Into Traffic
Ford said only 5% of the recalled SUVs may have defective roofs, and it will replace the hard tops free of charge.
- Ford is recalling 16,200 Ford Bronco SUVs because their MIC hard tops can crack and delaminate, creating a risk that pieces could fly off while driving and potentially strike other vehicles.
- The recall follows production process compromises involving third-party suppliers, affecting two-door models built between Sept. 23, 2020, and Jan. 13, 2022, and four-door models produced from Sept. 23, 2020, to Oct. 22, 2021.
- Ford estimates 5% of these SUVs actually have defective roofs; the company was aware of 25 warranty claims and two field reports, though no injuries or accidents have been associated with the recall.
- Customers can identify issues by looking for cracks or missing pieces, or by noticing increased wind noise while driving; they can search their VIN on the NHTSA website or call Ford for confirmation.
- Ford will replace the faulty hard tops free of charge and plans to mail notification letters to owners by Nov. 5, 2026, as the recall notes, "In severe cases, delamination can progress to detachment of sections of the outer skin while driving.
