‘Fake:’ Doug Ford Slams Poll Suggesting He Is Canada’s Least Popular Premier
Angus Reid said Ford’s approval fell 10 points to 21%, the worst of his tenure, as the pollster blamed economic pressure and government controversies.
On Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford rejected a new Angus Reid Institute poll showing his approval rating at a record low of 21 per cent. Ford dismissed the findings as "fake," claiming the methodology targeted opposition supporters.
The Angus Reid Institute cited "economic pressure and self-inflicted wounds" for the 10-point drop between March and June. Major controversies include Ford's $28.9 million Challenger 650 jet purchase and government exemptions from freedom of information laws.
Ford's popularity previously peaked at 48 per cent in March 2025 when he styled himself as "Captain Canada." The premier later claimed the pollster focused on a "hardcore NDP neighbourhood" to skew results.
Angus Reid defended its research, noting that Ford "did not express a problem" when previous polls showed positive results. The group added, "We stand by our research and methodology."
Despite Ford's personal approval slump, Progressive Conservatives maintain 40 per cent support, sufficient for a majority government. The party faces steady decline as it enters its eighth year in office, with Liberals gaining ground.
