Back in January, wildfires displaced hundreds of faculty, staff and students across southern California. Nearly one year later, Caltech is still helping many of its employees rebuild their lives—and advancing fire research in the process. For one California Institute of Technology professor, sifting through ash and soot sparked flickers of relief in the wake of devastating wildfires earlier this year.
