Palace Where They Belong After Year-Long 'Detour', Says Glasner
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the winner as Palace claimed their first European trophy and completed a treble of major honors under Oliver Glasner.
On Thursday, Crystal Palace secured their maiden European title by defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the UEFA Conference League final, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring the decisive second-half goal.
Manager Oliver Glasner, who took charge in February 2024, delivered three major honors in two years; the Conference League victory follows last season's FA Cup triumph and Community Shield win against Liverpool.
Defender Tyrick Mitchell described the win as "pure delight" after a grueling 60-game season, while teammate Wharton, whose shot set up the goal, said, "You can't put the feeling into words."
Glasner noted a "one-year delay" after UEFA revoked their Europa League qualification last season due to ownership rules; the Conference League victory now secures that spot for next season.
With his departure confirmed, Glasner credited his players for bringing silverware to Selhurst Park, stating his time at Palace was "a good chapter to read" before other chapters follow.
