Fools Five Road Race raises millions for cancer research in Lewiston
LEWISTON, Minn. — Almost half a century ago, 222 runners came together in Lewiston on April Fools' Day 1979 to raise money for cancer research. The Fools Five Road Race was started that year by a high school track coach and a runner. The runner wanted to start a race in his hometown and the coach thought it needed a cause.
