Cholera cases in Africa surge to 3 times higher than reported in 2022

Flu cases are rising early and are three times higher than last year, prompting expanded vaccination efforts to protect older adults and vulnerable groups, Isle of Wight NHS Trust said.

  • Isle of Wight NHS Trust reports flu cases are already three times higher than this time last year and have appeared earlier than usual on the Island.
  • Sue Lightfoot, hospital vaccination centre clinical lead, said protection from vaccines can decline over time and boosters are offered to maintain strong protection.
  • St Mary's Vaccination Centre opens on October 1, 2025 and will run until the end of January 2026, with clinics at Health & Wellbeing Clinics across the Island.
  • Health professionals warn the rise in flu cases risks the elderly and people with underlying health conditions, urging them to get protected before the worst of winter comes.
  • If unable to attend the Hospital Vaccination Centre, residents can visit Health & Wellbeing Clinics offering seasonal vaccinations, blood pressure and BMI checks, and other support.
