Floriston Fire: Evacuation Warnings Issued, Westbound Interstate 80 Shut Down
CAL FIRE requested additional air and ground resources as the blaze grew to 20 acres and no injuries were reported, officials said.
The Floriston Fire broke out Wednesday morning near Floriston Way and Interstate 80 in Nevada County, forcing the closure of westbound I-80 lanes and prompting evacuation warnings.
CAL FIRE reported the blaze reached nearly 300 acres by Wednesday afternoon, expanding rapidly from 20 acres spotted just after 10 a.m. and burning at a dangerous rate of speed.
Evacuation warnings cover zones NCO-E379, NCO-E105, and NCO-E106, according to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office; officials advise residents needing extra time or transporting livestock to leave early.
Westbound I-80 remains closed at the Nevada state line with no estimated reopening time, while CAL FIRE requested additional air and ground resources to combat the fire's rapid spread.
Investigations into the fire's cause remain ongoing as officials confirmed no injuries occurred. The town of Truckee continues monitoring the situation as crews battle the flames near the state line.
