- On January 27, 2026, Micah Alan Dyal, a substitute teacher from Haines City, was arrested in the Lake Alfred Polytech Academy parking lot and taken to the Sheriff's Processing Center.
- Around 1030 a.m., a school resource officer noticed Dyal backing out at Lake Alfred Polytech Academy, noting multiple signs of impairment and a strong odor of alcohol before administering a field sobriety test.
- The deputy administered a Field Sobriety Test and Dyal failed it, with Sheriff Grady Judd saying, `This substitute teacher was drunker than Cooter Brown at school while he was supposed to be teaching our children.`
- Polk County Public Schools said staff noticed something was off and did not allow the individual to proceed to the classroom, and the person will no longer have any involvement with PCPS.
- Dyal consented to a blood draw and agreed to submit a sample for testing, which will be sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for legal processing following testing.
