Florida officials pay respects to Cody Khork killed in Iran war

Captain Cody Khork, a 15-year military veteran, was killed in a drone attack in Kuwait, one of four Americans who died in the conflict with Iran over the weekend.

  • On Sunday, Captain Cody A. Khork died in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, during an unmanned aircraft system attack, the Department of War said Tuesday.
  • Amid initial strikes that hit more than 1,250 targets, the war that began Feb. 28 after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran escalated, according to the Trump administration.
  • Khork had a decorated 15-year military career with deployments to Saudi Arabia, Guantanamo Bay and Poland, earning over a dozen medals including the Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
  • Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried thanked Khork and urged the Trump administration to act quickly, while Republican Sen. Rick Scott extended condolences and 'endless gratitude' Tuesday night.
  • U.S. military officials say the attack is under investigation; as of March 2, U.S. Central Command reported six U.S. deaths, and the Pentagon identified the fallen March 3 with the 103rd Sustainment Command.
