Florida hospital fires nurse over profane post on Leavitt’s pregnancy
Lexie Lawler was fired and had her nursing license suspended after a TikTok wishing harm on a pregnant White House official sparked state-level disciplinary action.
- On Jan. 23, Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital fired Lexie Lawler, labor-and-delivery nurse, after she posted a TikTok wishing White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt a severe childbirth injury.
- The TikTok clip, which circulated widely before being set to private, explicitly wished Leavitt a fourth-degree tear and was amplified by Libs of TikTok; Singer alerted hospital leadership and condemned the remarks.
- Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Lawler cannot practice in Florida and urged the Florida Board of Nursing to revoke her license; a GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $5,000 as of Jan. 26.
- The incident prompted debate over political speech, professional ethics, and off-duty conduct limits, while requests for comment to the White House and Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital went unanswered on Jan. 24.
