‘Extraordinary Rainstorm’ Floods Nebraska City, Triggers Water Rescues

Grand Island, Nebraska experienced life-threatening flash flooding between June 25 and 26, 2025, following a historic downpour centered in Hall County.
The flooding happened after a total of 6.41 inches of rain fell continuously, breaking the earlier June 25 mark of 1.55 inches set in 1990 and coming close to the city’s highest single-day rainfall on record.

Although heavy rains caused significant disruptions and river levels are being closely watched, no injuries or deaths have been reported; however, officials cautioned that rising waters in the Platte and Missouri river areas could pose flood risks, especially with more severe storms expected late Saturday night.
