Flemish Government Reaches Agreement on Wind Turbines: Strict Distance Rules in Residential Areas, More Options in Industrial Zones

The Flemish government has reached an agreement on the distance rules for large wind turbines. As previously announced, there will be distance rules for (new) wind turbines in residential areas. At the same time, more will be able to be built in industrial and port areas. The issue has led to disagreement within the government in recent days.

16:28 Large wind turbines of 200 meters or more must be placed at least three times as far away from a home as the turbine is high. This has been decided by the Flemish government.

The planned placement of mega wind turbines in the municipality of Stichtse Vecht is causing anger and unrest among residents. The province of Utrecht wants to place 240-meter-high wind turbines near villages such as Vreeland, Loenersloot and Nigtevecht. The municipality is strongly opposed, but is ignored. Member of Parliament Henk Vermeer (BBB) speaks of "plundering under the guise of climate policy" and poses critical parliamentary questions.
