A point against Morocco would all but secure Scotland’s first knockout-stage berth, with Steve Clarke warning the side must be at its best.
Scotland's first World Cup campaign in 28 years continues Friday as they face Morocco in Group C at Boston Stadium, following their hard-fought 1-0 win against Haiti last weekend.
Morocco, ranked sixth in the world, enter as heavy favorites after reaching the semi-finals of the last World Cup. Scotland coach Steve Clarke called them 'the real deal,' acknowledging the significant challenge ahead.
Embracing their underdog role, Scotland aims to replicate the grit from their Haiti victory. "We're a little bit more comfortable when we're the underdogs," Clarke said, noting the team prefers this mentality.
Clarke considers tactical adjustments including a five-man defense and bolstering midfield with midfielder Ryan Christie to blunt attacks led by right back Achraf Hakimi.
Dismissing tournament permutations, Clarke emphasized focusing on the immediate challenge. "We just have to play the game," he said. "If you can't win it, don't lose it.
