Five shots fired in wild police pursuit
NSW Police launched a wide search after the driver fired five shots in the air and fled, with no injuries reported.
On Friday at 9:20pm, NSW Police initiated a pursuit after a Nissan Navara driver committed a traffic offense in South Wentworthville, leading through residential streets before the driver fled and fired shots into the air.
Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop the Nissan for irregular number plates and a traffic violation, but the driver failed to stop, sparking a pursuit through Merrylands and Guildford before crashing on Hawksview Street.
Police Chief Inspector Ricky Agius called the gunman "totally stupid" and a risk to the community for discharging a firearm in public; witnesses told Nine News they heard "mayhem," though no injuries were reported.
NSW Police seized the Nissan for forensic examination and established a crime scene, yet the suspect in the bright orange shirt remains at large despite an extensive search by PolAir and the Riot Squad.
Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 as investigators continue processing evidence from the crime scene.
