At least 418 migrants had arrived on the island of Crete by late Friday, in a surge of arrivals that prompted new efforts by Greek authorities to manage increasing migration flows.

The Port Authority of Chania is on alert, as there is a geometric arrival of actual migrants south or on the island of Gavdos.
