Fitzpatrick says pro-union bill dealing with contracts will pass U.S. House
Fitzpatrick said the bipartisan measure would speed first contracts for new unions and has enough support to force a House vote.
During a speech to the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters Convention in Hershey last week, Rep Brian Fitzpatrick, R-1st District, guaranteed members that the Faster Labor Contracts Act will pass the House.
Teamsters support the bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act because it would require employers to collectively bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form a union.
Fitzpatrick is one of just two Republicans supporting the legislation, with 98 total co-sponsors in the House including 81 Democrats and 17 Republicans.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries aims to secure 218 signatures for a discharge petition to force a floor vote, though a conservative lobbying group officially opposes the effort.
Fitzpatrick pledged to Teamsters President Sean Brien that he will force the bill to the floor, adding that the next step involves developing a strategy to navigate the Senate.
