First U.S.-built Iron Dome interceptor delivered to Israel

The joint venture says the Arkansas-built missile expands U.S. workshare and supports Israel’s Iron Dome, which has made more than 10,000 interceptions, officials said.

  • On the anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel, Arkansas and Israeli officials gathered at the R2S facility in East Camden to celebrate the first shipment of Tamir missiles built entirely in the United States.
  • Originally announced in October 2023, the joint venture between Raytheon and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems expanded from an initial $33 million investment and 30 jobs to about $63 million and 60 positions.
  • Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Director Shlomo Toaff called the production "symbolic and exciting to see the first Iron Dome missile built outside of Israel," noting the system has 15 years of operational experience and more than 10,000 interceptions.
  • The R2S plant holds a $1.25 billion contract to supply Tamir missiles and will produce SkyHunter for the Marine Corps' Medium-Range Intercept Capability program, expanding the facility's defense manufacturing scope.
  • U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton highlighted that the joint venture advances national security, as missiles produced in Arkansas will protect Israeli towns and U.S. servicemen during regional conflicts.
