Inside Peter Murrell's £124k Motorhome as Prosecutors Share New Pictures
COPFS says Murrell used false invoices and party cards to buy luxury goods, including a motorhome and a lawnmower, over 12 years.
- On Tuesday, the High Court in Edinburgh heard prosecutors outline their case against former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell, who admitted embezzling more than £400,000 from the party between 2010 and 2022.
- Murrell falsified accounting records and created fake invoices to disguise personal purchases as legitimate party expenses, including a £124,550 motorhome and robotic lawnmower described as "stage payment."
- The hearing revealed 383 Amazon purchases totaling £42,660.74, alongside doctored invoices for "Apple processor" and "studio light fittings" valued at more than £14,000 that covered personal goods.
- Former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Murrell's estranged wife, denied knowing of the crimes, stating she was "deceived, misled and betrayed" after a two-year police investigation cleared her.
- First Minister John Swinney condemned the embezzlement as an "overwhelming betrayal," while Murrell remains on remand at HMP Edinburgh awaiting sentencing scheduled for June 23.
