First base coach Grady Sizemore making quick impact with Twins
Sizemore’s experience and calm presence have made him a quick fit as Twins players and coaches lean on his feedback and clubhouse influence.
The Minnesota Twins hired Grady Sizemore this offseason as their first base coach, following his 2024 interim manager stint with the Chicago White Sox during their 121-loss season.
A two-time Gold Glove Award winner and three-time All-Star, Sizemore retired at 33 years old after injuries cut short his career, then began his coaching path with a 2023 Arizona Diamondbacks internship.
Twins manager Derek Shelton, who coached Sizemore in Cleveland from 2005-09, said Sizemore has a "unique aura about him" that draws people in. Left fielder Trevor Larnach called him "a guy that you can come to in all aspects of the game."
Sizemore solicits daily feedback from players and coaches, stating, "Every day, I'm asking them for feedback on what I can do better." This collaborative approach has quickly fostered strong relationships within the Twins clubhouse.
While Sizemore enjoyed managing in 2024, he currently prefers his first base role, stating, "I like being over at first base. I like working with the outfielders." He remains focused on receiving as much from players and coaches as he gives.
