THICK Black Smoke Towers over Deptford as 100 Firefighters Tackle Major Fire
About 100 firefighters and 15 engines are tackling a blaze involving 50 tonnes of household waste, while rail services into London Bridge face delays.
On Tuesday night, the London Fire Brigade responded to a massive blaze at a waste facility on Landmann Way in Deptford involving 50 tonnes of household waste, which crews brought under control by Wednesday morning.
The brigade received over 160 calls starting at 7:59pm, deploying around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines to tackle the incident from multiple stations.
Residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed as thick smoke and flames were visible across London; the facility was "severely damaged" by the fire.
Rail services between New Cross and London Bridge faced disruption, and National Rail advised passengers on the London Blackfriars to East Croydon route to allow an extra 30 minutes for journeys.
Crews remained on the scene Wednesday morning to extinguish pockets of fire while the cause remains unknown; disruption is expected until the end of the day.
