The fire in Gironde, which has travelled 42,000 hectares in six days, is "always stabilized" this Tuesday, July 28th in the morning. The night was "calm", with nevertheless several fire covers which are now under control.
Having burned an area of 42,000 hectares, the Gironde fire is the largest in France since the giant 1949 fire in the Landes mountain range in Gascony with 500,000 hectares of burnt land.
In the Landes, 15,000 people have finally been able to return home. This is also the case for some tourists, especially at a campsite in Parentis-en-Born which has been able to reopen its doors.
