More than 1,500 firefighters continue to fight against the biggest fire in decades in the south of France.

The fire, which has travelled 17,000 hectares in three days, is still in progress but it is no longer gaining ground, announced the prefect of the Aude, Christian Pouget. At least 1,850 firefighters and 600 vehicles are still mobilized.

The fire in Aude is under control. For 48 hours, the fire covered 17,000 hectares. Throughout the day of 7 August, firefighters from all over France struggled against the cover of flames.
