Grass fire breaks out near Arthur's Seat
Emergency crews evacuated the area as smoke spread across Edinburgh and firefighters brought the blaze under control, with no reported casualties.
A large grass fire broke out in Holyrood Park near Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh on Monday evening, with emergency crews alerted around 6:50pm after receiving multiple calls near the ruins of St Anthony's Chapel.
The fire erupted amid a sunny spell with temperatures reaching 25°C recorded by the Met Office, conditions that also caused heat exhaustion among Edinburgh Marathon runners over the weekend, echoing last year's multi-day Arthur's Seat blaze during the Fringe Festival.
Three appliances were mobilised by the SFRS, with police and firefighters in attendance; a spokesperson stated, 'There is no further need to alert our Operations Control to this incident as we have already received a large volume of calls.'
Residents were advised to keep windows and doors shut as a precautionary measure during firefighting efforts, with the public asked to avoid Holyrood Park; no casualties were recorded despite the fire's scale.
