The Finnish Ski Association announced that cross-country skier Iivo Niskanen's absence from summer training camps is due to a busy period in his life. The skier welcomed a child into the world and had to undergo surgery due to melanoma.

Iivo Niskanen, 34, was diagnosed with skin cancer this summer. When he went to examine a birthmark, the diagnosis was confirmed. “I have been through many ups and downs,” he writes on Instagram.
Iivo Niskanen, 34, discovered a skin lesion on his foot. It turned out to be skin cancer. “I am grateful that I went for a check-up in time,” says the Finnish ski star in a press release.
The Finnish ski star has had an acral in situ melanoma removed from his leg. He will return to national team activities in November in Olos.
