Former Lafarge cement chiefs released pending Syria terrorism financing appeal
The former CEO of French cement firm Lafarge, Bruno Lafont, and his right-hand man at the company Christian Herrault are to be released from prison under judicial supervision, pending their appeal over convictions handed down in April for financing terrorism in Syria.
Incarcerated since their conviction to a prison for the financing of terrorism in Syria, former leaders of the Lafarge cement group, Bruno Lafont and Christian Herrault, have been released under judicial supervision on Tuesday. They will have to pay a bail and have the ban to leave France before their trial on appeal.
Bruno Lafont, the former head of the cement manufacturer Lafarge, who was imprisoned in France for financing terrorism, is released under certain conditions.
The Paris Court of Appeal released Bruno Lafont and Christian Herrault, former leaders of Lafarge in prison in mid-April, on 26 May. The two men had been sentenced to six and five years in prison for financing terrorism in Syria by the Paris Correctional Court on 13 April.
