Finally, an old soldier fought his demons

It was one of the most painful of wartime experiences, but Herbert Kenny kept it to himself for 40 years. On April 15, 1945, he was the first British soldier to enter Belsen Concentration Camp, riding in on his army motorcycle, and it wasn’t until May 8, 1985, the 40th anniversary of the surrender of Nazi Germany on Victory in Europe Day, that he told his story.
