FIFA unveils Netflix World Cup game timed for 2026 tournament kickoff
The free game lets Netflix subscribers play all 48 World Cup teams and will add daily challenges tied to real tournament results.
On Thursday, FIFA announced that "FIFA World Cup Launch Edition." will debut on Netflix Games on June 11, coinciding with the 2026 World Cup kickoff in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Developed by Delphi Interactive and Netflix Games in collaboration with FIFA, the "streamlined football simulation game" serves as a beginner-friendly alternative to titles from FIFA's now-ended partnership with Electronic Arts.
Users can control any of the 1,248 players from 48 teams across 16 World Cup stadiums, with the format allowing up to four people to play using smartphones as controllers.
Netflix will make its biggest push into gaming with this free title, updated daily with challenges tied to real-world tournament results throughout the competition.
Following the World Cup, the game will "evolve over time," with plans for additions tied to next year's Women World Cup as part of a longer-term project FIFA described.
