Fidesz's own court just ruled against Fidesz — Magyar is delighted
The removal of Tamás Sulyok, the 12-year term limit for members of parliament, and the 70-year age limit for constitutional court justices were all constitutional — Prime Minister Péter Magyar responded to the Constitutional Court's (CC) Monday ruling in a Facebook post.
Hungary's Constitutional Court on Monday rejected all three complaints by the opposition parties Fidesz and the Christian Democratic Union (KDNP) against changes to the Hungarian constitution that were passed by parliament with the votes of Prime Minister Péter Magyar's ruling Tisza party. The court mainly argued that it lacked the authority to rule on the matter, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
Faction leader János Bóka is speaking after the Constitutional Court rejected all of the opposition party's submissions at its Monday session.
Opposition members requested norm control on three points, but were unsuccessful.
According to the body, its competence extends exclusively to the control of the procedural rules regarding the creation and promulgation of amendments to the Fundamental Law, but it cannot examine the content of the contested provisions.
