EU Offers To Fund Druzhba Pipeline ‘Repairs’ After Fico Push
Brussels appears unconvinced that Ukraine’s halt of Russian oil transit to Hungary and Slovakia is due to genuine pipeline damage. After reportedly being blocked from inspecting what Ukraine says is damage to the Soviet-era Druzhba pipeline from a Russian drone attack, the Commission has nevertheless agreed to cover the costs of any repairs. That is according to Slovakia’s Robert Fico, who, along with Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, doubts that the EU w…
Concerned about a new energy crisis due to the war in the Middle East, Europeans are in number, this Tuesday 10 March 2026, in Boulogne-Billancourt at the summit on civil nuclear power. On the sidelines of this summit, the President of the European Commission also met with Slovak Prime Minister R…

Fico warns Slovakia may block EU's Ukraine loan if Druzhba oil flows not restored
Slovakia’s prime minister said Bratislava could 'take the baton from Hungary' and block the EU’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine if oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline are not restored. Fico also condemned what he called 'cowboy style' behaviour by international powers in Iran.
The Slovak president will meet with von der Leyen on Tuesday, and will ask her "why they represent the interests of a non-EU member state against Slovakia and Hungary."
Slovakia promises to continue to block 90 billion euros for Ukraine instead of Hungary if the current Prime Minister, Victor Orban, loses the elections in Hungary and Ukraine does not resume the friendship oil pipeline.
