- He replaces Robin van Persie, who was relieved of his duties last week after one full season; Feyenoord technical director Devy Rigaux cited a "downward trend in points collected" in both Europe and the Eredivisie.
- The former Arsenal player most recently managed Besiktas, though his tenure proved short-lived after just 20 matches, having previously guided Rangers to the Europa League final before taking the reins in Turkey.
