Fery Denied Maiden ATP Title in Agonising Final Defeat Before US Open

Britain's Arthur Fery reached his first ATP Tour final at the Winston-Salem Open in North Carolina after opponent James Duckworth retired due to injury while trailing 6-4 2-1.
Fery's breakthrough follows a surprise run to the Wimbledon semi-finals in July, propelling the 24-year-old to a career-high ranking of 33 and overtaking Cameron Norrie as British number one.
Ignacio Buse, a 22-year-old from Peru ranked 36th, will face Fery in Saturday's final after defeating Benjamin Bonzi 6-2 4-6 6-1. Buse won an ATP 500 title in Hamburg earlier this year.
"I am really happy to be in the final," Fery said. Eight weeks ago the Briton was ranked outside the top 100; now he stands on the verge of his maiden ATP title.
Fery will face Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti in the first round at the upcoming Open at Flushing Meadows in New York. Musetti reached the quarter-finals in New York last year.
