Fentanyl found in system of CHP officer who died in Culver City crash

- During the late-night transport on July 2, Officer Miguel Cano told his partner he felt ill and then lost consciousness, causing their cruiser to crash near Green Valley Circle and Bristol Parkway.
- First responders administered Narcan at the scene as an opioid-overdose reversal precaution, the other two occupants suffered minor injuries, and Cano was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
- The medical examiner's report said the time and route of fentanyl exposure could not be determined, and the LA County Medical Examiner's Office listed the manner of death as accidental.
- Before the crash, officers arrested a DUI suspect who allegedly had a large quantity of cocaine, and Cano, 34, was praised by Captain Henry Castillo as "an incredible man with a big smile and an even bigger personality.
