DOJ Charges 10 Non-Citizens with Illegally Voting in Minnesota Elections

- On Wednesday, Attorney General Todd Blanche, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, and Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen announced federal indictments against 10 foreign nationals for allegedly casting illegal ballots in Minnesota elections.
- Defendants from eight countries, including Brazil, Ghana, and Liberia, allegedly voted illegally in the 2022 and 2024 general elections and the August 2026 primary, accused of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register or vote.
- Since President Trump took office in 2025, the Department of Justice has charged 90 people with voter-related fraud offenses, including 50 in the last five weeks. "The law is clear, only American citizens may vote in American elections," Blanche said.
- Convictions for falsely claiming citizenship carry up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines, while illegal voting is a misdemeanor. South African national Hester Sophia Weihmann, one defendant, already faced state charges in Isanti County last year.
- During the same press conference, Blanche filed a judicial misconduct complaint against Minnesota federal judges who spoke to the New York Times about Operation Metro Surge, characterizing their claims as "not even true and blatantly false.
