United Way Donates Money for Disaster Relief
- On May 29, 2025, the USDA announced it would distribute $1 billion through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program to support livestock producers who suffered losses due to drought or wildfire in 2023 and 2024.
- This aid follows legislation passed in late 2024 that allocates $21 billion for weather-related disaster assistance, helping cover losses such as grazing, flooding, and wildfire damage affecting farmers and livestock producers.
- The USDA’s Farm Service Agency is using previously gathered information from the Livestock Forage Disaster Program to quickly calculate and automatically distribute payments for eligible 2023 and 2024 applications, so producers are not required to reapply.
- Due to high anticipated demand, ELRP payments are expected to be reduced to 35% of the full amount initially, with the possibility of additional payments later this summer for other authorized losses. A public tracking page for disaster assistance progress was launched on May 7, 2025.
- This program aims to provide timely relief to ranchers nationwide, supporting a resilient farm economy as USDA commits to advancing remaining disaster aid authorized by the 2025 Act.
