Homeland Security Special Agent Arrested on Rape, Sodomy Charges
Police said the Homeland Security Investigations agent was placed on leave as investigators prepared to release more details in the case.
On Saturday, Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Kent Blacklidge surrendered at the Baldwin County Jail on multiple sex-crime charges, according to the Spanish Fort Police Department in Alabama.
The Spanish Fort Police Department is investigating Blacklidge, who was placed on administrative leave at the start of the probe; authorities confirmed his status as a special agent with Homeland Security.
According to a news release, Blacklidge faces counts of first- and second-degree rape, first- and second-degree sodomy, two counts each of first- and second-degree sexual abuse, and incest.
Spanish Fort Police Chief John Barber emphasized the department's responsibility to pursue justice and protect victims, regardless of whether the perpetrator wears a badge.
A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Spanish Fort Police Department to release further details about the investigation.
