FDA expands cinnamon recall to 16 brands with elevated lead levels
The FDA warns consumers to discard 16 ground cinnamon brands after detecting lead levels up to 7.68 ppm, posing risks especially to children under six years.
- On Oct. 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded its public health alert to include HAETAE and Roshni brand ground cinnamon, adding products sold at Dollar Tree stores.
- After retail testing, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found elevated lead in several cinnamon samples, following an August 2024 alert for Asli brand ground cinnamon and high lead in WanaBana brand cinnamon applesauce pouches.
- Testing shows HAETAE ground cinnamon measured 4.6 ppm and Roshni 2.268 ppm, with Super Brand reaching 7.68 ppm, among 16 affected cinnamon brands.
- The FDA urges customers to check their pantries and discard listed cinnamon products, including Durra distributed by Eureka Inc. from Aug. 24, 2024 through Oct. 6, 2025 and Wise distributed by SLR Food Distribution from Feb. 15, 2024 through June 28, 2025.
- Children younger than 6 years face the greatest risk from lead exposure, the CDC reported more than 560 sickened by lead-tainted pouches, and the FDA issued a 10 parts per billion voluntary limit.
