FCTA begins possession of 4,794 plots revoked over non-payment of ground rent from Monday

  • The Federal Capital Territory Administration will start repossessing 4,794 properties with revoked titles on May 26, 2025, in Abuja districts.
  • The revocation was carried out due to overdue ground rent payments spanning from 10 up to 43 years, with some defaulters who owed between one and ten years having been granted a 21-day period in March 2025 to settle their dues.
  • The properties impacted by the revocation are located within several districts including the Central Area, the Garki and Wuse zones, as well as Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape, and ownership of these properties has now been transferred back to the FCTA.
  • The total ground rent owed on 8,375 defaulted titles amounts to about ₦6.97 billion, with enforcement involving sealing and restricting access to the repossessed properties.
  • The FCTA will legally exercise ownership rights without court restrictions, using government agencies to enforce compliance and determine subsequent property management.
