The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "deep regret" for the death of Father João Felgueiras and expressed gratitude for the Jesuit priest's dedication to the people of Timor-Leste.
João Felgueiras, a native of Guimarães, was ordained a priest in 1950 and was in Timor-Leste since 1971. He fought for the preservation of the Portuguese language in the region during the Indonesian occupation of the island.
