YEOVIL DISTRICT HOSPITAL, SOMERSET, JUL 24 – Daniel Gunter was convicted of murdering his two-week-old son who suffered multiple blunt force injuries at Yeovil District Hospital's special care baby unit, court heard.
- Daniel Gunter, 27, was found guilty on July 24, 2025, at Bristol Crown Court of murdering his two-week-old son Brendon Staddon at Yeovil District Hospital.
- The conviction followed a three-week trial where evidence showed Gunter inflicted catastrophic blunt force injuries causing Brendon's death on March 5, 2024.
- Brendon was found badly bruised and seriously injured in his cot with a crushed skull, broken limbs, deep scratches, and multiple fractures, discovered after his mother alerted nurses.
- Prosecutor Charles Row KC stated Brendon had “blunt force impact head injury” and was “badly bruised from head to toe” with his skull shattered and several bones broken.
- Gunter was remanded in custody pending sentencing, while Brendon's mother Sophie Staddon, 23, was acquitted of causing or allowing the child's death.
