Father Could Face Manslaughter After Boy, 6, Killed by Forklift
On Friday, May 8, six-year-old Lucas De March died after being struck by a forklift at Meccanica De March, his father Gabriele De March's engineering firm in Sedico, Italy, around 6:30 p.m.
Lucas often visited the business after school, and employees stated Gabriele sometimes gave his son rides on the forklift in the company yard, according to reports.
Authorities have confiscated the forklift for safety inspections to ensure regulatory compliance, while prosecutors are considering potential manslaughter charges against De March following the incident.
Mayor Christian Roldo canceled the "Sedico in Festa" event, stating, "This decision is a sign of mourning and to honour the memory of Lucas," and asked locals to support the grieving family.
Psychological support will be available at nurseries and primary schools attended by the child's friends, as Lucas, who had a three-year-old brother, was set to begin primary school in September.
