Fatal officer-involved shooting under investigation after attempted break-in call in Montco
County detectives are investigating after officers shot a man following a 911 call reporting a possible break-in, officials said.
Upper Pottsgrove Township Police fatally shot a man early Sunday while responding to a 911 call reporting a possible attempted break-in at a residence on Snyder Road near Philadelphia.
Upon arrival at the property, Officers located a man at the rear of the residence. Officials say an "encounter ensued" between responding Officers and the subject, during which police discharged their weapons.
Located about 35 miles northwest of Philadelphia, Upper Pottsgrove Township remains the site of the incident. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele stated the deceased man's identity and the Officers' names have not been released.
Following the shooting, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced Sunday that the Montgomery County Detective Bureau has launched a full investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Authorities have not released whether the man was armed or disclosed specific details about what led to the gunfire. The Montgomery County District Attorney indicated additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
