More Crews Sent to Fast-Moving 149-Hectare Fire South of Kamloops Near Stump Lake
BC Wildfire Service says 71 firefighters, aerial resources and heavy equipment are responding as the blaze remains out of control.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the Kullagh Creek wildfire sparked near Stump Lake south of Kamloops, growing from 30 hectares to an estimated 149 hectares by evening, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service .
BCWS crews, now totaling 71 firefighters, are battling the out-of-control blaze; windy conditions are driving the fire's expansion, while the cause remains under investigation.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District declared a state of local emergency, issuing an evacuation order for one property at 8805 Kullagh Lake Road and an evacuation alert for 30 nearby properties in Electoral Areas J, L, and M.
Impacted properties under alert include the northeast end of Stump Lake, sections of Kullagh Lake Road west of Highway 5A, and other locations within the orange zone of the released map.
Residents are advised to monitor the TNRD Emergency Operations Centre website and register for the Voyent Alert system, as officials warn the situation remains evolving with limited notice possible for future orders.
