Family says 2 friends found shot to death had returned home to spread beloved dog's ashes

On Wednesday, DeLand police found the bodies of Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, in a vacant lot in DeLand, Florida. Police Chief Jason Umberger confirmed both men were each shot multiple times.
The two men, who grew up in Volusia County, returned to Florida to spread the ashes of Hinata, a family dog. Campbell was visiting his father while Rose came from South Carolina to help with the memorial.
Rose, a student at The Citadel and member of the South Carolina Army National Guard, was remembered by family as a "compassionate child." His aunt, Karen Chobin, described Campbell as "the kindest soul."
DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger is urging the public to be diligent as investigators work rapidly to identify the suspect. "Be aware of your surroundings, because we may have someone out there that perpetrated some violence, and we don't know who that person is," Umberger said.
Chobin issued a plea to the shooter: "We beg you to consider the people that are home grieving the losses of the lives that you took, and may they realize that nothing that they gained was worth the life of those two boys.
