Family of top Ohio State football commit Jamier Brown sues OHSAA over NIL policies
- On Oct. 15, Jasmine Brown, mother and plaintiff, filed in Franklin County court seeking to allow Jamier Brown, Huber Heights Wayne wide receiver , to earn NIL while in high school.
- After past setbacks, the referendum process was already planned, as the OHSAA Board of Directors approved NIL language for member schools, despite a 538-254 vote rejection.
- More than $100,000 in potential revenue is cited as the complaint says Brown has earning power over $100,000 per year and has been approached about trading-card licensing and other NIL opportunities.
- An emergency member vote could be triggered soon, as Doug Ute, OHSAA Executive Director, said the association is prepared to act with 8 member schools, possibly before the regular referendum.
- Ohio is one of only six states that blocks high-school NIL while 44 states and the District of Columbia permit it, and Brown says allowing NIL could help families and retain talent.
